Riyadh: The Embassy of India in Riyadh marked India’s 77th Republic Day with a ceremonial celebration attended by nearly 500 people, including members of the Indian community, Pravasi Bharatiya Samman awardees, embassy officials and representatives of local media.
The programme began with the unfurling of the national flag by Indian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan, followed by the national anthem and the laying of floral tributes at the bust of Mahatma Gandhi. The ambassador later read out the message of the President of India addressed to the nation and Indians abroad on the occasion.
The official ceremony was followed by a series of cultural performances by schoolchildren and members of the Indian community, featuring a blend of classical and contemporary dance and patriotic songs. Special presentations were dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, India’s national song, with a themed photo booth highlighting its historical and cultural significance.
