Saudi regrets the decision made by the UN Security Council regarding Palestinian membership

RIYADH: The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed its disappointment regarding the UN Security Council’s recent failure to adopt a draft resolution aimed at granting full UN membership to the State of Palestine.

The ministry stated that this decision exacerbates the current challenges in the region, especially by permitting the Israeli occupation forces to carry out actions without facing consequences.

It was underscored by the ministry that impeding Palestine’s full membership at the UN obstructs peace efforts and enables continued violations of international law.

Saudi Arabia has restated its appeal for the international community to take resolute measures to halt attacks on civilians in Gaza and back the Palestinian right to self-determination and statehood. The kingdom advocates for the establishment of a state within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, aligning with the criteria outlined in the Arab Peace Initiative and other pertinent international resolutions.
