
Riyadh : The official induction ceremony for the newly elected School Management Committee (SMC) of the International Indian School Riyadh (IISR) took place on September 12, 2024, in Riyadh. The event was held at the school’s conference hall and was graced by the presence of Dinesh Setia, First Secretary (Information, Culture, and Education) at the Indian Embassy, who presided over the ceremony.

The ceremony saw the in-person attendance of committee members Prashin Ali, Shahzeen Eram, Dr. Sumayya, and Syed Zafar Ali, while Chairperson Shahanas Abdul Jaleel and Dr. Sajida Husna participated online from India. Principal Mrs. Meera Rahman extended a warm welcome to Mr. Setia, who also serves as the observer for all International Indian Schools (IIS) in Saudi Arabia, and presented bouquets to him and the new committee members. In his address, Dinesh Setia emphasized the crucial role of focusing on student welfare and the importance of safeguarding the school’s assets. He reminded the committee of their responsibility as custodians of the institution.

Shahanas Abdul Jaleel, a software engineer and newly appointed Chairperson, expressed her pride in her new role. “I am truly honored to be appointed as the Chairperson of the School Management Committee. I am excited about contributing to the school’s growth and success and look forward to collaborating with my colleagues to achieve our goals and positively impact our students’ education,” she stated.

In a historic development, the SMC now has a majority of women members for the first time, in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. Principal Meera Rahman, the school’s first female principal, described this as a momentous occasion and expressed her hope that the committee’s dedication and teamwork would elevate the school, ensuring quality education and holistic development for future Indian citizens.

Shahzeen Eram, a journalist and committee member known for her work in education and women empowerment, pledged to work diligently towards enhancing educational excellence and overall development. Syed Zafar Ali, Sajida Husna, Sumayya Suhail, and Prashin Ali also committed to upholding the dignity of the institution and contributing to its progress.
The International Indian Schools (IIS) in Saudi Arabia consist of 11 embassy schools across the Kingdom, in addition to 38 CBSE-affiliated schools, reflecting the extensive network of educational institutions serving the Indian community in the region.
