RIYADH: King Khalid International Airport (KKIA), operated by Riyadh Airports Company, is set to launch a major terminal transformation plan in the first quarter of 2026, the most significant operational overhaul since the airport opened more than 40 years ago.

The initiative aligns with Riyadh’s rapid expansion and forms part of a broader strategy to enhance the airport’s operational capacity, efficiency, and passenger experience. It includes comprehensive organizational upgrades and a large-scale reallocation of terminal operations following renovation works designed to preserve the airport’s original architectural identity.

Under the new terminal structure:
Terminal 5 will serve international flights operated by foreign airlines, Terminals 3 and 4 will be assigned to domestic flights and Terminals 1 and 2 will continue to handle international flights for national carriers. The restructuring is expected to boost overall terminal capacity, streamline passenger flows, reduce waiting times, and significantly improve service quality and traveler experience. A final implementation date will be confirmed once all airport partners and airlines declare full operational readiness.
Riyadh Airports, working with the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) and Airports Holding Company, emphasized that this transformation is part of a wider vision to elevate service standards at the Kingdom’s primary airport and support the capital’s long-term aviation development plans.
